God, The Father of the Fatherless

There are many people around the world whose hearts are broken and hurting because they don’t have a father or their father did not love them and accept them. This is why occasions like Father’s Day can sometimes be a tough time for many people. There are also those who were rejected by their fathers and feel like they have no worth, no value as individuals.

If you have had a bad experience with your earthly father, your heavenly Father says to you today, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn you and continued My faithfulness to you.” Jeremiah 31:3

God cares for the Fatherless

God cares for those who no one cares about. People around may not notice or acknowledge you but God cares so much He calls Himself the Father of the fatherless! Not just that He steps in to protect and act against those who do wrong to His suffering children.

Psalm 68:5-6 says, “A father of the fatherless and a judge and protector of the widows is God in His holy habitation. God places the solitary in families and gives the desolate a home in which to dwell; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

Deuteronomy 10:18 too speaks about this, “He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger or temporary resident and gives him food and clothing.

Psalm 103:13 says, “As a father loves and pities his children, so the Lord loves and pities those who fear Him [with reverence, worship, and awe].

The Father who corrects

Being a good Father God wants the very best for each of His children. For this reason, He corrects us so that we don’t make mistakes that will cause of grief, sorrow or pain in the future. Proverbs 3:12 says, “For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.

We may get angry when we are corrected. When the enemy entices us using things that look attractive he never shows that in the end we will pay a heavy price for the very same thing. For instance, the first puff of a cigarette or drug can lead to getting addicted and then destroy our health, our mind and future too. Many people have learned the truth when it was too late and messed up their future because they gave in to such temptations.

The God of recompense

If you have been through some traumatic experiences in life, the Lord reassures you that all will be well. He will heal you and restore you. He says, “For I the Lord love justice; I hate robbery and wrong with violence or a burnt offering. And I will faithfully give them their recompense in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant or league with them.” Isaiah 61:8
