A Prayer for the World on Pentecost Sunday. Participate in the Global Day of Prayer!

Each year, on Pentecost Sunday, millions of Christians gather across the nations to pray a prayer for the world. This is part of an initiative from the Global Voice of Prayer which has held Global Day of Prayer events annually for more than two decades.

Pentecost Sunday is the time each year when we remember when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the disciples gathered in the Upper Room as Jesus had promised. Tongues of fire descended on their heads on the Day of Pentecost and the disciples were filled with new boldness as they experienced God’s power. Today we can experience the same boldness and power as we are filled with the Spirit.

Be filled with the Spirit,  speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:18-20)

A Prayer for the World

In past years the Global Day of Prayer has seen mass gatherings in huge arenas but in these days of pandemic, it is the Internet that enables us to join together in prayer in large numbers. Wherever you are there is no distance and prayer and God is able to fill you to overflowing with His Holy Spirit. As we petition Heaven with prayers of intercession and repentance we can trust God to move across the nations bringing healing and restoration especially in these tough times.

A Prayer for the World

A Prayer for the World is the main connection point for believers participating in the Global Day of Prayer, whether in homes, churches or online. Watch the video below and pray along as the words are scrolled on the screen.

God desires for us to come to Him with the simple faith of a child, and this Prayer for the World starts off with children praying and continues with intercession against Covid-19, in different languages. Let’s unite as believers around the globe and agree with this Prayer for the World for restoration and revival in the nations.

The Global Day of Prayer

The Global Day of Prayer urges believers to respond to the challenge of 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Founded by South African businessman, Graham Power, it started off as a National Day of Repentance in South Africa in the year 2000 and grew rapidly to more and more countries. 2009 marked a milestone as it was the first time every nation on earth participated, with Christians gathering in 218 nations in groups of all sizes. Today Global Voice of Prayer works alongside multiple prayer initiatives in order to see a great outpouring of the Spirit in our time.

While each Global Day of Prayer event is unique, they all have one thing in common, whether believers are praying at home, in church or at a public place, they all pray the same prayer. ‘A Prayer for The World’ can be downloaded via the Internet at: Global Voice of Prayer
