“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse.” Mark 2:21
God wants to give something new to you. Have you been holding on to the past and refusing to welcome the new life that God wants to give you? Sometimes we are so busy protecting those very things we need to let go, that we don’t realize God wants us to give them away.
The homeless man held on to his tattered garment as though he was holding on to life. They tried very hard to coax him into parting with it but he wouldn’t let go of it. Sitting there on that street corner, that rag had become a part of his life, a part of his very self. His memory was laden with things from the past about how he got that garment, all his joys and sorrows that this piece of cloth was mute witness to… He thought of it almost as a friend and now the volunteers were pulling it out of his hands. He felt her whole world was falling apart.
While he was grappling with his trauma, he didn’t know that the volunteers were actually trying to help him. They asked him to leave that garment because they wanted to give him a new one. He didn’t know that they had made arrangements for him to have a bath and wear a new set of clothes. They had even got a kit ready so that he could have a shave and a bath at a nearby center whenever he needed one. Oblivious to the new life waiting for him, he held on desperately, refusing to let go – his old life.
Let go of the past
Are you holding on to something that the Lord wants you to let go of? Unless you let go of the things that hinder your new life and destiny, you will not see the blessings that the Lord has for you. If the Lord asks you to leave or let go of something, do not think that He will leave you desolate and needy. He will replace it with something better.
Hebrews 13:5b says, “He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” Amplified Bible
Don’t worry about anything. God will definitely provide for all your needs. Let Him have His way, He will do better than anything you can dream of.
Prayer:
“Dear Jesus, help me let go of the things that You have asked me to let go of. I need Your help Lord, to see beyond the present, give me the grace to accept and obey what You want me to do. Thank you for the assurance that You are always with me, Amen.”
